Hope on Democrats’ ‘Repeal the Steal’ press conference
LANSING — House and Senate Democrats held a press conference to call for the repeal of a 2018 law that gutted a minimum wage increase for low-wage workers. Their proposal would reinstate the minimum wage increase as laid out in the original ballot initiative and us supported by the more than 400,000 Michiganders who signed on to the proposal. State Rep. Kara Hope (D-Holt) issued the following statement:
"I proudly support increasing the minimum wage in Michigan. Hundreds of thousands of Michigan voters have said this is important to them. Nobody can live on a minimum-wage income. Nobody can afford decent housing on a minimum-wage income. And too many Michiganders are working for starvation wages. This legislation is the first step in a long process of working to ensure these families receive the opportunities they deserve."
