Shannon on passage of School Aid budget

Thursday, September 19, 2019

An updated and expanded version of the School Aid budget passed the House today after House Democrats fought to see key changes made reflecting the priorities of everyday Michiganders, including an increase to special education funding and an increase in flexibility in the use of “at-risk” funds. In response, state Rep. Nate Shannon (D-Sterling Heights) issued the following statement:

“One of my main priorities when elected was to help influence change in our education funding practices. While this budget leaves much to be desired, my community will see a slight bump in funding for our schools, and it provides us a foundation from which we can continue this fight.”
