DETROIT – State Representative Fred Durhal Jr. (D-Detroit) will be joined by friends, family and supporters for his swearing-in ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the International Institute in Detroit.
"I am honored that the residents on our community have put their trust in me," said Durhal, who will represent the 6th House District in Detroit. "I will work hard every day to fight for the changes we need right now. I am thrilled to be a member of the Michigan House and I am ready to get to work and put our economy and our state back on track."
Durhal will be sworn in by Lt. Governor John D. Cherry Jr. at the People's Inaugural Luncheon to be held at the International Institute, 111 E. Kirby Ave. in Detroit, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, Durhal also will be taking part in an Anointing Service and Prayer Breakfast at the Unity Baptist Church, 7500 Tireman Ave. in Detroit, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
As a State Representative, Durhal will focus on bringing good-paying jobs to Detroit; helping businesses and entrepreneurs create jobs that cannot be outsourced; ensuring our schools have the ability to prepare our children to compete for jobs in the 21st century economy; and providing property tax relief to homeowners.
"Getting our hard-working families back to work is the key to rebuilding our community and our state," Durhal said. "It will also help keep more families in their homes and off the streets. I will fight to do everything I can to make Detroit and Michigan a better place to live, work and raise a family."
